RAR and WinRAR versions

This page lists which RAR or WinRAR version is the last one for a given operating system, as well as other notable versions.

Note that this covers archivers only. UnRAR is covered by RARLAB themselves. I also offer a somewhat more recent UnRAR for Mac OS X on PowerPC and UnRAR for Mac OS/MPW.

Version Comment
7.01 Last version for 32-bit Windows, FreeBSD and Linux, and the last version for Windows Vista (64-bit too).
6.24 Last version able to create archives in the "RAR4" format (which is actually the same as in RAR 3.x). Available for Windows (32-bit, 64-bit), macOS (Intel, ARM), FreeBSD (32-bit, 64-bit), Linux (32-bit, 64-bit).
6.02 Last version for Windows XP.
5.50 Last version for Mac OS X on 32-bit Intel. Also the last version for Macs with Core 2 Duo processors?
4.20 Last 4.x version.
4.11 Last version for Windows 2000.
4.01 Last version for Mac OS X on PowerPC.
3.93 Last version for Windows 98, Me, NT 4.0. Last native version for DOS (but you may prefer 3.62; see below).
3.80 Last version for Windows 95. (Perhaps 3.93 would work if Internet Explorer 4 or later is installed.)
3.62 Latest version currently compatible with the HX DOS extender (latest version here). The advantage over the native DOS version is that it supports long filenames when DOSLFN is loaded. (The native DOS version claims to use long filename functions if run in Windows; DOSLFN implements the same functions, yet RAR doesn't use them. Perhaps it actually checks whether Windows is loaded.)
